TIME

Time gallops at a blinding pace
            who knows where it will stop?
Neither have we the reins in our hands
            nor our feet in the stirrups

Youth has vanished but
            we remain unaware
We search eternally for it
            our backs doubled with age

a door to which

there is no key

a screen beyond which

no one can see

what lies beyond

gnaws at the heart

not a flicker of light

seen through the night

hope that springs eternal

keeps the mind sane

trudging through the mines

lurking in the uneven terrain

THE MEAT ON OUR PLATE

Most of us cannot do without our daily/weekly fix of favorite fish fingers, chicken lollies or mutton biryanis.  Kids these days prefer having their birthday parties at KFC, Marry brown or McDonald’s and their special menu seems incomplete without some golden roasted, lip-smacking chicken wings.

We end up consuming non-vegetarian food inadvertently too.  For example, some desserts contain pork, such as most kinds of gelatin, or other non-conforming substances and foods like noodles contain additives such as monosodium glutamate (MSG) that may use enzymes derived from pig fat in the production process.

Many religions preach vegetarianism, but certain religions like Islam and Judaism allow consumption of meat if the ritual method of slaughter i.e., Halal or Kosher is followed.   But the fact remains that a living being is killed just to satiate our taste buds. The video by PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) which I have posted here may make us aware of the real horror story behind the meat on our plate.

LAMENT FOR THE LOST COMMENTS

‘Little knowledge is a dangerous thing’
Never more truly said;
Tried fiddling with my blog and
Abracadabra-all the comments vanished!

Asked a couple of friends to help me out
“lost all my comments” I wailed;
Almost read their minds, I could:
“Why didn’t the posts accompany the comments?”

One dear pal assured me I’m not alone
there are more dimwits like me;
She guided to a website and said
“Post your problem in the thread”(!)

All that I know is the one I use with the needle
Gnashing her teeth, I could hear her
praying all her Gods for forbearance
but managed to ram it into my head!

Followed her instructions, I did
and now waiting with bated breath
and crossed fingers for the day
comments choose to come back to my blog!!

V-DAY

Today being Valentines Day, planned to dedicate
a few lines to the love-struck romantics of this world.
But a skeptic like me could only churn out a parody :D

Love is in the air
Everyone is with their pair;
The young and the old
feel love moves the world,

Rack my brain I did,
for verses to fill the grid;
Thoughts have fled my mind
leaving me in a bind.

Pages threaten to be wordless
like our lives which are loveless.
Love verses broke mid-way,
like dreams of our lives blown away

Set out to write love ditty
but lost the plot, what a pity!
Tried to keep up with the rhyme
and ended up with a whine!

Recipe says "do this"
I cannot stick to "this"
I have to do "that"
"why not try that?"
am I wired differently
that I just have to
tweak it a bit here..
twist it a bit there..

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

Why is it that we cannot stick to counting our blessings, why does it become difficult to avoid comparing ourselves with others? We think of all the miseries the others undergo to make us feel better-a sort of superior feeling. Belittling others to inflate our egos. Are we reduced to such a state that we have to necessarily compare ourselves with those worse off than us-why can’t we raise our sights? Are we scared it will make us unhappy, insecure, dissatisfied, restless, restive? Is it our early conditioning or our religious beliefs which guide our thoughts? Makes me wonder, really.

Friendship acquired in childhood often
matures into lasting union. During
childhood the human heart remains soft
and pliant, like a brick of clay; two such
hearts plastered together in their original
softness seldom break away from each
other even after being burnt in the oven of life.
